The ever critical head tube junction is one of the most important sections on any frame, especially 29" frames. The larger lever arm (longer fork and taller wheel) combined with the shorter head tube increases forces on this critical area substantially, and while all Niner frames pass stringent testing standards, we wanted to improve this junction while decreasing the weight. Niner and Easton worked side by side to come up with a proprietary downtube designed to be used without a head tube gusset while still maintaining the necessary clearance for fork crowns. The bent downtube was the best solution and simultaneously increased the strength of the head tube area while decreasing the weight and created the clearance needed to fit any fork on the market on this frame.

In the rear triangle, we've also redesigned the s-bend chainstays and seatstays for increased heel and mud clearance while maintaining the vertical compliance and lateral stiffness of the stays. The drop outs are "Breezer" style drop outs with a replaceable derailleur hanger. All the details you've come to expect from Niner are, of course, standard here which include an internally butted head tube and BB shell, faced head tube and BB, reamed seat tube, a faced disc tab and chased BB threads for a frame that's ready to build right out of the box.

Niner ups the anti yet again with the Air 9: a super light frame with the smooth rolling, compliant ride of Easton Scandium, this time, for riders who prefer gears.
